Best SNL Digital Shorts

The second Digital Short to be aired in 2005 set the tone for the series, with Chris Parnell and Andy Samberg busting dope rhymes about how they were going to spend a weekend. Mainly, going to see The Chronicles Of Narnia, drinking Mr. Pibb and eating Red Vines. The profanity-laced clip became a viral video sensation overnight and, all of a sudden, SNL was worth talking about again. The mix of dorkiness and hip-hop culture is going to recur a few times throughout this list, so be ready.

The totally absurd Laser Cats poked fun at the low-budget nature of the Digital Short phenomenon, opening up with Samberg and Bill Hader pitching their latest short to SNL head Lorne Michaels. In a world where radiation has given common housecats the ability to shoot lasers out of their mouths, two men must use their feline weapons to battle the forces of evil, and rescue Lindsay Lohan, who seems to have absolutely no idea what is going on. Not that that's uncommon for her.

Andy Samberg's hilarious Jude Law impression makes this 2011 Digital Short awesome. As Batman, he shows up to inform Commissioner Gordon (played by the brilliant Steve Buscemi) about threats to Gotham City. Unfortunately, the times he chooses are a little inappropriate, especially during the beleaguered cop's prostate exam. This one brought the laughs on several fronts, including a totally unexpected Aquaman cameo. Nobody ever expects Aquaman.

Many of the most memorable Digital Shorts come from the Lonely Island's album projects. The trio of comedians operated together as a unit before signing up with SNL, and the show has been generous enough to let them essentially use the airspace to make music videos for their songs. One of the best examples is I'm On A Boat, which pokes fun at the rap video cliche of MCs dropping lyrics yacht-side and guest stars T-Pain. The song went platinum, it got a Grammy nomination, and the video is hilarious.
