Avatar: The Last Airbender's Questions

Before we dive into The Last Airbender: Legend of Korra, why don't we get the answers to Avatar: The Last Airbender's questions.

The Last Airbender: Legend of Korra won’t bend its way onto Nickelodeon until sometime in 2012, but fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender have already spent years wondering about the mysteries left in the wake of the series. Every fan has their own take on what questions they want answered by The Last Airbender: Legend of Korra.

Legend of Korra’s panel at San Diego Comic Con 2011 offered fans plenty of new details for the upcoming mini-series, as well as a first look at the brand new trailer. Straight from the mouths of series creators Bryan Konietzko and Mike DiMartino we learned that Korra would face off against both a metalbending police force led by Toph’s daughter and an anti-bending revolution led by the mysterious masked Amon. We also caught our first look at the character models for Aang’s son Tenzin, his family, as well as Korra’s companions and new hybrid animals.

Still, Avatar: The Last Airbender fans want their burning questions answered by The Last Airbender: Legend of Korra, and we can hardly blame them! What happens to the Aang gang seventy years after the events of Sozin’s Comet and the end of the Fire Nation war? Did Zuko ever find his mother Ursa, and what crazy new bending styles can we expect to be in common use by Korra’s time?

You’ll want to bend all your thoughts toward your own burning questions as we explore the mysterious list of Avatar: The Last Airbender's questions!

What Happened To Ursa?

Obviously the largest lingering question left by Avatar: The Last Airbender’s series finale involves Urza, Zuko and Azula’s mother. What little we know indicates that some time in the past, she entered exile to save Young Zuko’s life when Fire Lord Azulon had ordered Ozai to kill his own firstborn son. Whether or not she lived to the point Zuko ever found her after the war remains to be seen, as a scripted reunion was pulled from the final episode for unknown reasons. Could we perhaps see a flashback during Legend of Korra?

Who is Amon?

We know very little behind the main villain terrorizing The Legend of Korra, other than the name Amon, or the fact that he leads the anti-bending organization known as the Equalists. What could he be hiding behind that mask? Could he be a character we know from Avatar: The Last Airbender, hiding his or her identity for unknown reasons?

What New Hybrid Animals Will We See?

Clearly Avatar fans need to know what insane hybrid animals await them in The Legend of Korra! Korra has her polar-bear dog Naga, her companion Bolin keeps a fire ferret named Pabu, and we’ve seen that sky bison and winged lemurs once again occupy the skies of the realm. What new creations await Korra, possibly even more wild than a sabre-tooth moose lion?

Will There Be New Bending Styles?

At least three new styles of bending were discovered during the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender, including Toph’s metalbending, Katara and Hama’s bloodbending, and the energybending Aang used to defeat Fire Lord Ozai. Now that we know Toph taught her metalbending abilities to her daughter and created a metalbending police force, we’re hoping to see a deeper explanation of bending at large. If Aang learned to energybend, might others in Korra’s time discover other links between the four elements? The Legend of Korra has an incredible opportunity to bend the truth here.

What Happened to the Fire Nation?

Avatar: The Last Airbender’s Fire Nation couldn’t have easily collapsed because Prince Zuko defeated his father Ozai and made it so. It’s not like the Empire of Star Wars disappeared just because Vader and the Emperor perished on the second Death Star! Aang and Zuko surely had plenty of political strife in developing Korra’s Republic City, and we’re curious to know if the nations of The Last Airbender: Legend of Korra even identify themselves as Earth, Wind, Fire or Air anymore.
