Release date: March 2, 1984
A British heavy metal rock group is put under the microscope in this mock documentary.
Christopher Guest would later pick up the mocumentary mantle with such scathing romps as Waiting for Guffman and Best in Show, but his works never quite go up to 11 the way this rock n roll creation does. Funny, brilliant and insightful in equal measures, Spinal Tap is the model of its kind, and has actually gotten even better with age. The extras - and oh, there are many - are just as good as the feature film itself. Spinal Tap's drummers may die, but the band itself never will - they released an album in 2009 of favorite hits and new material.
Rob Reiner (director), Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer, Bruno Kirby, Ed Begley Jr., Fran Drescher, Patrick Macnee, Billy Crystal, Dana Carvey, Howard Hesseman, June Chadwick, Fred Willard, Anjelica Huston
