Derek Smalls is the bassist for the heavy metal rock group Spinal Tap, the band featured in award-winning filmmaker Marti DiBergi's documentary, This is Spinal Tap. Derek describes the turbulent relationship between bandmates David St. Hubbins and Nigel Tufnel as "fire and ice" and takes pride in being the happy medium of "lukewarm water." He is an accomplished gardener, having developed a black rose called "Death by Midnight," and was once part of the Christian rock group, Lambsblood. His on-screen credits include Killer #1 in Marco Zamboni's Roma '79 and a series of commercials for a Belgian snack food called Floop. Derek's name comes from the album cover of Jethro Tull's Thick as a Brick - see if you can spot it!
