The Fly

Release date: August 15, 1986

The Pitch:

A scientist's experiments with teleportation result in his hideous transformation into a giant man-insect.

Why You Need It:

Director David Cronenberg's masterpiece is a must-own for every sci-fi/horror fan, with Jeff Goldblum giving perhaps the performance of his career as Seth Brundle, a brilliant man undone by one simple anomaly - there was a fly in the telepod with him. The makeup and special effects are, of course, astounding - by 1986 standards and today's - but it's Cronenberg's intelligent direction and Goldblum's masterfully nuanced and thoughtful performance that make The Fly a true classic. The film is sometimes humorous, often disgusting and almost always unbearably intense - strap yourself in and take the ride.

Talent:

David Cronenberg (director), Jeff Goldblum, Geena Davis, John Getz, Joy Boushel, Leslie Carlson, George Chuvalo, Michael Copeman, David Cronenberg.
