Mel Brooks gives homage to Alfred Hitchcock in this psycho-comedic take on Vertigo and other suspense thrillers.
One of Mel Brooks' more disciplined (and witty) efforts, High Anxiety is a playful and clever take on Hitchcockian paranoia and conspiracy, with Brooks himself doing rather well in the lead role of Dr. Richard H. Thorndyke, a man who must overcome his fear of heights in order to prove his innocence after he's framed for murder. Filled with plenty of in-jokes and sight gags, with a particularly memorable moment involving Brooks in the shower and Barry Levinson as a bellboy - and Madeline Kahn is, of course, extremely lovely as the Kim Novak stand-in.
Mel Brooks, Madeline Kahn, Cloris Leachman, Harvey Korman, Ron Carey, Howard Morris, Dick Van Patten, Jack Riley, Charlie Kallas, Ron Clark, Rudy DeLuca.
