Peter Griffin: Dad of the Year

Peter Griffin made his first appearance in a 15-minute short that aired on Fox on December 20, 1998 -- and now, 13 years later, he shows no signs of ever going away. Here we've compiled a series of videos featuring the patriarch of Family Guy doing what he does worst: being a father.

He's worked at a toy factory and at a brewery but, above all, Peter Griffin's most important and life-defining job is being a father to Meg, Chris and baby Stewie. It's a job he's not very good at, but he's managed to pull it off for over a decade -- and those kids don't seem like they're every going to go off to college (or, in the case of Stewie, off to even kindergarten). Being a parent is hard enough -- being a parent when you're stuck in a floating timeline is even harder. Here are Family Guy clips featuring Peter as the father we're all glad we never had.

Startled by Meg

Peter's reaction time is a bit slower than most people's. Sure, he can get startled just like everyone else, but it takes him a little longer to realize that he's been startled -- and to react accordingly. And by "accordingly" we mean hitting his daughter with a baseball bat while the real culprits are downstairs in ski masks.

Meg Impersonation

You know, we have to admit... Peter does do a pretty good Meg. The rest of the family seems to think so, too.

Gas Attack

We're not sure what makes Meg throw up in this scene -- the running around in circles or the fact that Peter is rapid-fire farting on her, emitting more noxious fumes than is probably humanly possible. It might be a combination of the two. Or maybe she's pregnant.

Peter Bullies a Bully

Peter beats the ever-living crap out of a kid named Kyle, the bully that's been pushing around Peter's son, Chris. Peter has roughed up people who are smaller and/or younger than him before, but this sequence is disturbing in a whole new way if only because Kyle's moans of pain after being beaten sound rather... well, realistic.

Peter Channels Columbine

Granted, a vengeful Peter does have second thoughts before he opens fire on the "popular kids" who never accepted him, but unfortunately his phone call to his associates comes too late to stop the massacre. Columbine had nothing on this fateful day in Quahog, Rhode Island.
