Sal was the leader of a community of vagabond hippies and wanderers who had made their home in a secluded Thailand paradise known as The Beach, a secret place hidden from the outside world - its citizens, its influences and its rules. When an American backpacker named Richard arrives at the Beach, it's the beginning of the end as sexual jealousy, shark attacks and murderous marijuana farmers proceed to tear everything and everyone apart. Sal isn't beyond demanding sexual favors from Richard in exchange for her silence when he admits that he's told outsiders about the Beach (see photo) - and she's not beyond possibly killing him if it means she'll be able to hold on to her little piece of paradise.
