Neal Caffrey was a master forger and thief whose criminal career came to an end (sort of) when he was captured by ace FBI agent, Peter Burke. While in prison, the white collar crook was visited and dumped by his girlfriend, Kate, which inspired him to escape and track her down. Caffrey was soon recaptured by Burke but convinced the FBI agent to let him work as a consultant, as he may have certain "insights" into white collar crimes that could prove to be useful. Only a con man would try to pull something like that off - and only a con man would succeed. Caffrey now works for J. Edgar and continues his pursuit of Kate, whom he believes to be in grave danger.
