A sadistic pedophile and son of a wealthy meat packer, Mason Verger was left horribly disfigured and crippled after his encounter with cannibalistic psychiatrist/serial killer Dr. Hannibal Lecter. After Lecter escaped from the loony bin, Mason offered a substantial reward to anyone who could offer information that would lead to his recapture - actually, Mason was planning on doing away with the good Doctor himself all along, looking to throw Lecter to a pack of wild boars he'd trained to crave human flesh. After Italian detective Rinaldo Pazzi failed to deliver Lecter, Mason found an ally in corrupt Justice Department agent Paul Krendler to lure Lecter out of hiding by using Clarice Starling as bait. Mason succeeded in capturing Lecter but was ultimately thrown to his own bloodthirsty wild boars by his personal assistant and physician, Cordell, after Lecter drolly suggested that he could always blame it on him.
