Joshua Cairn is a nine-year-old child prodigy, always dressed in formal wear and showing remarkable talent as a classical pianist. He's also out of his mind, and his behavior goes from eccentric to completely sociopathic with the arrival of his newborn baby sister, Lily. Soon, things at the Manhattan home of the well-to-do Cairn family start to go very bad, with mother Abby on the verge of the same kind of depressive breakdown she experienced after giving birth to Joshua - and Joshua himself seems to have killed his grandmother, disguising the act as an accident. Joshua's father, Brad, eventually realizes that his son is a monster and becomes obsessed with protecting his baby daughter from her big brother at all costs.
