We recently had some time to check out Turtle Beach's new PX3, the less expensive alternative to the PX5, and our ears loved every minute of it. Right out of the box, using the USB that actually has a switch with XBOX, PS3 and PC options, you can connect it to any of these three sources and play. The PX3, is about $100 less than the PX5, but at a cost; the new headset features stereo sound, rather than the Dolby 7.1 surround sound found in the PX5. Regardless of this, however, the PX3 retains many of the PX5's features, including the programmable audio presets we've come to love, the "Sonic Lens," and the "Dynamic Chat Boost."

The programmable presets, also found in the PX5, allow players to customize their gaming experience by changing the audio levels to feature certain sounds more predominately than others. With game specific downloadable presets in the works, this is slowly looking like the norm of future gaming. The "Sonic Lens" let's you amplify specific frequencies such as footsteps or the sound of reloading and the "Dynamic Chat Boost" allows the chat volume to increase and decrease depending on game volume.

The most important new feature of the PX3 is the rechargeable battery. The new ion-lithium batteries power the PX3 for 10+ hours of gameplay, making it the first rechargeable Turtle Beach headset.

Although the PX3 lacks the Dolby 7.1 surround sound of the PX5, this can be instantly changed by adding a Dolby surround sound processor, making the PX3 a force to be reckoned with in the gaming headset market. The versatility of being able to add the surround sound option if needed, the comfortable and ergonomic design and lower price point than its bigger, PX5, brother make the PX3 a headset that you should keep your eyes, and ears, on.
