Some of the biggest names in gaming came out swinging with DLC this week. LucasArts, Sony, Blizzard and Capcom all dropped some superb digital awesomeness this week. In fact, it's all so good that if you can't find something on this list worth picking up, I encourage you to re-examine your life choice as a gamer. Maybe now's a good time for you to take up curling or something. Here's the best of this week's Virtual Goods:
1. LucasArts Goes Home
If you were thinking that your PSN Home avatar could use more whip, well, it's your lucky week. LucasArts have launched their official store at the mall in Sony's virtual world Home in a big way: by releasing a line of official avatar clothing for two of their biggest franchises. Toy Fair wasn't the only place that Star Wars merch showed up this week, because now you can turn your avatar into a full-on Stormtrooper or Imperial Officer. Or, for the more subtle fans, you can buy just a lightsaber or some Jedi and Sith banners for your personal space. Indiana Jones fans really only have on choice, and that's to turn their avatar into Indy, from his hat right right down to his shoes. Now if they could somehow make the avatars drop and grab their hats every time they leave a room... that would be amazing. $0.99 - $4.99
2. The Tester Goes To Work - The Tester Season Premiere: Episode 1 "The Critical Eye"
Sony's taken one more step towards taking over your life this week by launching their own reality series, The Tester. This week marks the premiere episode, which is available as a free download on the PlayStation Network, and now you can watch as eleven "gamers" battle it out to win an entry level position as a game tester working at one of the biggest companies in the world. Talk about incentive. Free
3. Phoenix Wright Goes To Court - Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Justice For All
Right on the heels of the first WiiWare release for the Phoenix Wright series only two weeks ago, Justice For All dares wanna-be Perry Masons, Jack McCoys, and Matlocks to head back into the courtroom and use all of their skills of deduction to solve cases. If you missed these games on the DS, now's your chance to grab them and enjoy all their point-and-click action on the big screen. Besides, if Capcom continues releasing them at this rate, you'll be caught up to the latest title, Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth (which dropped earlier this week) before the end of Spring. 1,000 Wii Points ($10)
4. StarCraft 2 Heads into Beta
It's been a long time coming, but StarCraft II is finally here, well, sort of. The multiplayer beta is at least, and that's what you should be playing right now, not reading about it. If you were one of the lucky ones to already be accepted into the program consider this your reminder to go and download it. As for everyone else, what are you waiting for? Go. No, seriously, get on that so that you don't miss out the next time beta keys get sent out. If you do, don't blame us, it's your own fault. (Free)
5. Resident Evil 5 Goes Everywhere
This week signaled the second coming for Capcom's seminal zombie franchise as Resident Evil 5 went virtual in a big way. First off, if you don't already have the game, you can now get it On Demand on Xbox Live for only $29.99, and, to go along with your new purchase you can also pick up the game's first expansion, Lost In Nightmares or Costume Pack 1 (both are also available on PSN). Heck, even if you're just an R.E. poser, and you just want to look like you play the games, Xbox Live has you covered, literally, with tons of new (and awesome) clothes and props to adorn your avatar. Consider this the official re-launch of Resident Evil 5; it's kind of like it died, and came back to life. What a novel idea.
6. PB Winterbottom Goes On A Pie Hunt
Whether you're a fan of monochromatic gaming or not, take note that XBLA game The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom dropped this week. Simply put, it's a game about collecting pies. You shoudn't have to keep reading after that. I'll say it again with a slighty better description so that you fully comprehend how awesome it is: The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom is a black-and-white, old-timey looking, puzzle/platformer about collecting pies. There you have it... now let them eat pie. 800 MS Points ($10)
