Slices of goodness coming from DC and Marvel, but the real stories are at IDW and BOOM! Studios! New titles rolling out that are far from your cape and cowl superhero tales!
G.I. Joe: Hearts and Minds #1 (IDW) – The big news about this title is the author—Max Brooks. Not only is he director Mel Brooks' son, but he’s the top talent when it comes to writing zombie fiction (see World War Z). Let's see how he takes care of the Joes!
Marvel Zombies 5 #5 (Marvel) – Normally, the fifth round of a series is the bottom of the barrel, but Fred Van Lente’s “sky’s the limit” plots are making this series the best of the bunch. Follow Machine Man and Howard the Duck as they hop worlds, trying to find the cure for the zombie virus. This week: Camelot!
7 Psychopaths #1 (BOOM! Studios) – In the 1940’s you’d have to be insane to try and assassinate Hitler. And these guys are just crazy enough to give it a try! A gang of 7 madmen attempts to kill WWII’s ultimate target!
Superman: War of the Supermen #4 (DC) – The idea of telling the tale of New Krypton vs Earth in four books, spanning the 100 minutes of the war, has been an interesting experiment. Writer James Robinson is juggling a lot of balls with this story, from the US military under General Lane to the New Krypton forces led by General Zod, but it’s all-out DC action all the way.
Ethan’s Pick of the Week:
Mystery Society #1 (IDW) – Writer Steve Niles likes two things: horror comics, and writing horror comics. Mystery Society is his newest series, following two underground/supernatural detectives. If you know me, all you have to say is “supernatural detectives,” and I’m in.
The Pull List: New Comics from Marvel, DC, IDW, and BOOM!
Indie publishers like BOOM! and IDW come out in force this week!
