Marvel's Heroic Age means some fresh-faced kids are getting their own series, while over at DC some classic faces are looking good for their age! See what books are coming out this week!
Avengers Academy #1 (Marvel) – The last "Avengers in training" series, Avengers: The Initiative, was a damn fine comic book, introducing neat characters like Butterball and Cloud 9 that seem to have some staying power. This new series, Avengers Academy, has some big shoes to fill, but with a smaller focus (not 50 individual teams), it should do nicely.
Hack/Slash: My First Maniac #1 (Image) – Tim Seeley's ongoing tale of a slasher survivor taking on Hollywood-style murderers has made the jump to Image Comics, and that's big news. This new series starts us over from the beginning, as Cassie Hack deals with the death (ok, murder) of her mother and her newfound role as protector of serial killer targets!
Batman #700 (DC) – Say what you want to about Grant Morrison's take on Batman, the man's got impact like you've never seen before! This anniversary issue brings his tales of the Batmen of three different eras to life with art by his favorite artists: Andy Kubert, Frank Quitely, and Tony Daniel!
Jonah Hex #56 (DC) – There are some good reasons to pick this book up on Wednesday. As always, the Justin Gray/Jimmy Palmiotti story is going to be great, like everything they do. And then there's the movie that's coming out, and this issue's a fine place to jump on if the film looks interesting; it's an origin retelling. To top it off, Darwyn Cooke cover!
Ethan's Pick of the Week:
Young Allies #1 (Marvel) – I don't know what it is about this book, but after reading the Nomad mini and back-up in Captain America, I'm looking forward to this. A team book with some of Marvel's forgotten about kid heroes? I'm sold. Sean McKeever writing and David Baldeon art help.
