11 | The Unknown |
The Unknown wouldn't have been successful without Minck Oosterveer's creepy artwork (you know that face I'm talking about, Unknown fans), but Mark Waid's creativity and command of the craft set this one apart from other mini-series. To go into further details would be to spoil the treat, but let's just say that this is currently one of the comic book mini-series I most desperately want a sequel for (though that's unlikely to happen at this point).
10 | Ruse |
"He's the world's greatest detective. She's better." Mark Waid only wrote the first half of this series' 26-issue run, but in that time he created an alien Victorian planet where fantasy, magic and living gargoyles are quite commonplace. The series was published by CrossGen, which has since gone under. Luckily for us, Marvel has revived CrossGen titles, including Ruse.
9 | Superman: Birthright |
Supes has had his fair share of stories, so calling a Superman story one of the very best isn't done lightly. And yet, Mark Waid's Superman: Birthright is just that. Superman's origins have been told seven billion times, so to make the story new and fresh is nothing short of special.
