You know the feeling you got watching The Dark Knight that the Joker wasn't just your run-of-the-mill psychopath? That this guy, who tells a child abuse sob story only to contradict it in conversation with someone else, is really and truly crazy beyond reason and understanding? That's what Alan Moore first gave us in The Killing Joke. This is nothing short of masterful storytelling. If you haven't read it, rectify that with haste.
