Dragon Ball was one of the most polarizing anime series ever: either you loved it, or you had a laundry list of reasons why you were the #1 hater. Akira Toriyama's sprawling story was filled with great comedy and fun characters, but also episodes-long battle scenes crammed with power-ups, grunting and more power-ups. Finally, something for both camps emerges: Dragon Ball Kai, which will start airing on NickToons in May.
Dragon Ball Kai started airing in Japan last year, and is a condensed and digitally cleaned-up version of the original Dragon Ball Z. The rather dated soundtrack has been re-recorded, and some (although not too much) new animation has been added. FUNimation will release the first DVD from the series in May, after the series premiere.
