Nexon's MMOs Not Coming to Macs or Consoles

SAN FRANCISCO -- Nexon America vice president Min Kim said that players shouldn't expect to see their games on Macs or consoles anytime soon, despite the growing trend of MMOs being developed for those platforms.

During the Game Developers Conference, Kim showed off his company's newest free-to-play action MMORPGs, Vindictus and Dragon Nest. He said that every time he shows those titles, people ask when they're going to be released on consoles.

"The reality is there are no plans to do it because of the way that our games our serviced," Kim said in an interview with UGO. "The nature of our games are live, and in order to get them running right and to deliver that same experience, we're going to have to update monthly and adapt it on the fly. I don't think consoles are capable of that yet."

Kim said he'd love to have Nexon's titles on consoles "at some point" but in the interim both Vindictus and Dragon Nest are being adapted to work with standard console controllers as well as keyboard and mouse. He also thinks that the games will be so appealing to console action gamers, that they'll come back to their PCs. "There's this whole new generation of PC gamers growing up that I think are going to be pretty adept at using a keyboard and mouse to game," he said. "I think people will train themselves because they like the game."

However, Mac users are still out of luck. With Nexon's headquarters in Korea, the market is currently still dominated by the PC market. Though with Apple's domination of the younger demographic, Kim admits that it's something they need to work on. '

"Korea's been a predominently PC market, and so when we talk to developers, Macs are not a priority at all," Kim explained. "But now you're seeing the iPhone and that influence in Korea, and now they're trying to get Macs. I feel like that's going to change, but that's going to take some time. In short, there probably won't be Mac support (for Nexon games), but we're trying to change that now."
