On the heels of other fan-friendly moves like appointing a cartoon as an official Anime Ambassador* and a cat as a Tourism Ambassador**, the Japanese government (through the Japan Foundation) has launched a new website that explains popular phrases in anime and manga.

It's a bit like admitting that Americans mainly learn Japanese to upgrade their otaku membership, and trying to make lemons with that lemonade. Kudos to the Japanese.

The website, anime-manga.jp, launched on Monday and offers quizzes, cute mascots and profiles of stereotypical character types and why they use the language they do. So get to it!

*Doraemon, natch.
**Is there more than one cat in Japan? Hello Kitty.
