New 52 Best Character Reboots

The New 52 has not only been a major victory for the powerhouse comic company, but also a huge win for the readers as well. With (for the most part) a fresh start, plenty of these reboots feature characters well worth your time.

Character continuity tends to come and go as the DC faces we adore are juggled from writer to writer, but the New 52 is giving many of these fictional favorites a brand new start. Leaving some previous continuity intact and tossing aside other instances, everyone from Batman's vast family tree to a few Wildstorm favorites are getting a chance in the panel spotlight. The one major mythos that has widely gone untouched by the massive move is Green Lantern, but even then there's the new Green Lantern Corps and Green Lantern: New Guardians titles. Besides, to restart Geoff Johns's masterpiece would be blasphemy, and seeing Sinestro take center stage in The New 52 is without question one of the most pleasurable reads so far. But what other characters are worth your reading time? Here's our list of The New 52 Best Character Reboots!

Red Robin

Tim Drake is stepping back into familiar shoes as he rebuilds the new and not-so improved Teen Titans. Sporting a brand new (and more durable) look, Robin's wings (a la Spider-Man's Vulture) can not only let him soar across cities, but the tough attachments can also save his life from a barrage of bullets. Leading the team consisting of Kid Flash, Wonder Girl, Skitter, Bunker and possibly Superboy (I guess we'll see if he switches teams in #5 or sticks to his mission). Oh, Drake, it feels like only yesterday you were poisoning Lady Shiva or getting smacked around by Catman. It's nice to see you're now the one doing the smacking and we're excited to see you develop even further as a leader!

The Wildstorm fan favorite receives a complete reboot and his own ongoing series in The New 52! Cole Cash is now a former special ops soldier turned con-artist. As expected, his latest con goes horribly wrong and he gets kidnapped by Daemonites, aliens who take over human bodies. Cash, being the awesome guy that he is, manages to escape from the blue beings and is now on the run. To hide his identity, he dawns his legendary red mask... which he actually stole from a costume store! So far Cole's adventure has been an impressive read and we've even seen him take on Green Arrow.

Nightwing

The original Robin is back in business and wearing the costume that helped define him. It appears that Dick Grayson's story has mostly gone unchanged. There's chatter of his time as Batman, a few remarks on his history, but most important of all, he's back as Nightwing! With a few tweaks to his costume (and the return of his taser), Grayson is flipping around the rooftops of Gotham and breaking teeth with his eskima sticks. His rogues gallery was infamous for being absolutely terrible. Blockbuster was great, but then there was the likes of Brutale and Shrike. But, let's hope Saiko more than compensates as his long-term enemy.

Deathstroke

Deathstroke

Slade Wilson is a man deserving of his own title. He has broken into the pages of The New 52 with a brand new look (a far bulkier armor than ever before), and the man with an uncountable amount of kills is providing popcorn entertainment for his readers. Not an issue goes by without a taste of violence or display of Deathstroke's jaw-dropping level of skill. The story revolves around Slade having to prove his age isn't a hindrance, but I'm baffled as to why anyone would think that. Gray hair or not, the guy has no problem smacking around Batman.

Atrocitus

Not much has changed for the short-fused leader of the Red Lanterns, but that doesn't make us any less excited that Atrocitus's agenda is the focus in his own ongoing series. Now having the chance to flesh out the stories behind his minions, the powerful villain has upgraded their intellect to aid his goal of destroying (in a rather brutal fashion) evil across the universe. And, in turn, create new Red Lanterns for his powerful corps. Oh, and did I mention the body of Krona is now missing? Is this Bleeze playing a cruel trick on him or is the former Guardian now alive? I guess we'll find out soon enough.
