Most Expensive Comics

The sixth most expensive comic ever sold isn't even a comic, but rather, a piece of art from a comic. At a recent auction, an anonymous collector purchased the original art for page 10 from Frank Miller's seminal Batman epic, The Dark Knight Returns, for a jaw-dropping $448,125.

A near-pristine copy of the first appearance of Green Lantern—long before he became the Guardian of the Galaxy we all know and love—in All American Comics #16 is estimated to be worth roughly $430,000 according to auction sites.

Featuring a cover which we can only assume DC would love to forget ever publishing, the first issue of their formerly longest running ongoing series (which would eventually debut characters like Batman, Robin, Batgirl and Martian Manhunter just to name a few) is estimated to be worth $405,000 for a near mint copy.

So who's a better character: Batman or Superman? Well, if we're going by comic book values, it looks like the Man of Steel beats out The Bat, but considering a first issue of Batman's ongoing is worth an estimated $359,000, one can only assume that owners of these books are quite happy regardless of the argument's outcome.
