Some comic book characters are just too buff to explain away with talks of protein shakes and gym visits. These guys have to be roided out.

Bane

When you think roided out comic book characters, Bane is typically one of the first guys to come to mind. While a lot of comic book heroes and villains look like they’ve been juicing, Bane is one of the few in which it’s absolutely confirmed. The Batman villain actually pumps the steroid-esque drug Venom into his veins, which enhances his already tremendous strength to outrageous levels. While Tom Hardy doesn’t appear to have any tubes going into his neck, we’ve still got our fingers crossed that Venom will make an appearance in The Dark Knight Rises.

Kilowog

Kilowog is from another planet, Bolovax Vik to be exact, so it’s entirely possible that every Bolovax Vikkian looks like strongman competitor. Honestly, though, we kind of doubt it. Additionally, Kilowog was a genetic scientist in his pre-Green Lantern days, and who has time to develop a physique like that when there are so many polymerase chain reactions to monitor? We aren’t even sure why Kilowog needs to be that jacked up, since his powers are all based on the strength of his will. We can guaran-damn-tee that when we get our Green Lantern ring, we’re totally letting ourselves go.

Savage Dragon

Another alien, Savage Dragon may very well just be naturally built like that. When it comes to Erik Larsen’s signature superhero, however, there’s one clear giveaway that he’s been hitting the gas: his legs. Like a lot of steroid users, Dragon’s apparently only interested in those vanity muscles, beefing up his arms, shoulders and chest while not spending any time whatsoever on those little chicken legs of his. Do some squats, bro!

Lobo

Ok, so, there are more than a few aliens on this list, but if extraterrestrial visitors were more committed to building up muscle mass the natural way we wouldn’t have to load this list up with them. Lobo wasn’t all that huge by superhero standards when he first appeared in Omega Men #3 back in 1983, but he has definitely bulked up since then. We could see a world in which a guy gets that big through protein and creatine alone, but given Lobo’s propensity toward illicit substances, we’re guessing he’s been taking some short cuts. Horse steroids most likely.

Strong Guy

Strong Guy’s power allows him to absorb kinetic energy and get huge, but mutant ability or no, we definitely think there’s something else going on there. Additionally, Strong Guy is the roadie and bouncer for mutant rockstar Lila Cheney. How else could he keep up that physique while on the road all the time? Finally, Strong Guy’s real name is Guido Carosella. While it may be true that not all Italians do steroids, it certainly doesn’t help his case, does it?
