Will slate computers replace that book bag?

Bringing textbooks to the iPad and other slate computers probably wasn't the first thought on a lot of your minds when you first heard about the combination of full-color screen and ebooks. But, hey, think about it. The Kindle can't really recreate a textbook with all the colors, pictures and graphics as of now but the iPad has huge potential. Someone just needs to come along with an app that not only presents the text book material in the same way the regular book it does, but also allow for highlighting and notes to be written in the margins and you'll be all set.

Wired's Gadget Lab blog reports that three colleges—Seton Hill University, George Fox University and Abilene Christian University—purchased iPads for their students before the product was even released. The idea is to cut down on paper and textbooks that students have to lug around, with an additional eye towards assisting professors and students with apps that will help them add to their lesson plans and streamline the education process overall.
