Another Major Superhero Is Dead, At Least For Now

Is it us, or have these death events basically become meaningless?

Spider-Man is dead. Long live Spider-Man.

With tomorrow's Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #160, Marvel's Peter Parker is a dead duck. At least in the Ultimate Universe, where the "Death of Spider-Man" story arc kind of let us know this was coming.

This event will lead to an overhaul of the Ultimate universe and a brand-new Spider-Man, whose new suit we showed you weeks ago. We still don't know who he (or she! gulp!) is, but we'll let you know as soon as you do. The universe will pick up after Parker's death in July's Ultimate Comics Fallout.

"We've never seen a world without Spider-Man, a world without Peter Parker, so his death is a significan event for the Ultimate Comics Universe and we're going to see how quickly it changes everything," says Marvel's EIC Axel Alonso. "Readers are in for something very new...and surprising because everything that happens in Ultimate Spider-Man #160 and Ultimate Comics Fallout sets the stage for even bigger stories." Bigger than Spider-Man dying? We'll see.

Spidey's death comic, written by the legendary Brian Michael Bendis and drawn by Mark Bagley, goes on sale tomorrow, June 22nd.
