Rowdy Philly punk rockers American Speedway recently issued their lastest album, A Bigger Boat (on April 26th via Prophase Music). Drummer Chris Callahan agreed to a Short-But-Sweet Interview, and as you're about to learn, the group certainly enjoys cold frosty ones...

UGO:  How rockin' is A Bigger Boat?

CHRIS CALLAHAN:  Get a copy of the record and see for yourself. Grab a 12 pack, kick the wife or girlfriend out of the room and turn it way the fuck up. Oh, and tie your hands together because you're likely to break, or throw something around.

UGO:  In a recent press release, the band is described as a "beer guzzlin' punk rock n' roll foursome." Do you agree with this assessment?

CHRIS CALLAHAN:  Yes. We do guzzle beer, a lot of beer. It's our blood, our fuel, our guts. Do we play punk rock? Sure, but really, it's just rock & roll. Bottom line. Rock & roll with the pedal to the metal, beer infested animals who love to play and have a good time. It has all been done before. But we don't care. It's fun shit, and based on album sales and our growing fanbase, we do it pretty fucking well.

UGO:  What is the best beer currently on the marketplace today and why?

CHRIS CALLAHAN:  There are so many. But certainly Pabst Blue Ribbon stands at the top. Not too light, and not too heavy. It's just right. And, PBR is the All-American beer. We've been drinking it for years, even though it's a bit scenester now. Our rehearsal spot is like a fucking Pabst Blue Ribbon museum. There's Pabst memorabilia hanging all over the place spanning from 1844 through the 2000's.

UGO:  What is the worst beer currently on the marketplace today and why?

CHRIS CALLAHAN:  Although a malt liquor, Four Loco. Because the FDA regulated it making it not fun to drink anymore. Haha.

UGO:  Where is the best place to drink beer and why?

CHRIS CALLAHAN:  The Prima Cocktail Lounge in Phoenixville, PA. It sounds classy when you say it like that, but it doesn't sound classy when you describe it as a little crappy bar that's attached to an hourly-rate motel. And it's just full of the greatest people in the world. It also opens at seven in the morning. It's just full of like 80-year-old guys who don't talk to anybody and just sit there and stare at their beers. They don't give a shit about anyone else's problems. That's pretty much what that's about. Kinda just like, shut up, no one cares, we're all trying to figure out our own stuff. The picture on the inside cover of our new record A Bigger Boat was taken there (though you can't see much of the bar itself sadly).

UGO:  Where is the worst place to drink beer and why?

CHRIS CALLAHAN:  The Fire in Philadelphia. Because they don't serve PBR, nor Budweiser, or at least anything close to those two brands.

UGO:  Please settle this debate once and for all - is Miller Lite so delicious because it "Tastes great" or because it's "Less filling"?

CHRIS CALLAHAN:  Less Filling. Means that more can be consumed so you can get wasted. This is half the reason why we like Pabst so much (aside from the reasons mentioned from previous questions). Pabst tastes great and is ALSO less filling. Drink it! Own it! And stop drinking your corporate Nascar beer! Pabst Blue Ribbon wins ALL THE TIME!
