Everyone's favorite piano player was actually created for a Purina Dog Chow commericial, but he didn't stop there. After sweeping the nation with his dog food commercials, he was contracted to do commercials for Esskay Meats, and even a sales film for the American Photocopy Equipment Company. He soon went on to co-host the Jimmy Dean Show, all long before The Muppet Show even debuted. Check out some of his early commercials:

I know we've all heard that Cookie Monster is cutting back from his cookies to promote better eating habits, but did you know he was being healthy this whole time? He wasn't actually eating cookies in his sketchs, but rice crakers made to look like cookies. Apparently they crumbled much better than the real thing. He was a role-model after all!
