When Optimus died in Transformers the Movie (1984) there was a huge fan outcry demanding that he be brought back. The writers responded by bringing him back as a zombie and then promptly killing him off again. Fans got quiet after that for fear that we would be forced to watch Prime resurrected only to be gang raped on a pinball machine in the back room of some redneck bar.
