The First Death of Optimus Prime

It was grow up time in 1984, when in a shocking turn of events they decided to kill off Optimus Prime. For a generation raised with cartoons whose characters never died, it was disturbing to see Big Red go down from wounds that he would have brushed off in the TV series. I would like to say I am over it, but on cold September nights, when I lay in bed and close my eyes, I can still see his final moments moving endlessly in a slow motion loop in my mind.
