The Hunger Games Characters

The Hunger Games seems to be just about everywhere nowadays, and very soon it will be in your local movie theater. We've pulled together a brief look at all the major characters from the book with pictures of their big screen counterparts. May the odds ever be in your favor!

That black cover book with the bird on it that everyone seems to be reading on the train or bus is called The Hunger Games, one of the best-selling books of the last couple years; on March 23rd it will get a big screen movie version, so you're going to be seeing and hearing a lot more about it in the near future. 

We've pulled together a primer of sorts, a list of the major characters of the book that you'll be seeing in the movie. There are some very minor spoilers in the character text, but we've restrained ourselves from spilling our guts about each twist and turn. If you're looking for a way to get to know The Hunger Games characters before you hit the theater, read on:

Cinna

Cinna is the Tim Gunn of The Hunger Games. He takes raw materials, manipulates them and somehow makes it all work. He's the main stylist for District 12 and his goal is to make his pair of Tributes shine on the main stage at all Hunger Game events. Cinna will be played by Lenny Kravitz in the movie version of The Hunger Games, and as you can see in the picture above, he's looking very much like... Lenny Kravitz. We'll see how this all works out.

Haymitch Abernathy

Haymitch is a drunk, a disaster, an all-around awful person and the only way that Katniss or Peeta will survive The Hunger Games. How can a drunk mentor prepare the two youths for bloodsport? Haymitch is the only District 12 winner of The Hunger Games and the only person with any experience inside the arena, so if Katniss and Peeta are going to survive, it's with Haymitch's help. He won the 50th Hunger Games after all and while he's a complete mess of a person, he's also got a few words of wisdom to impart on his Tribute mentees....

Rue

At 12 years old Rue, of District 11, is one of the youngest competitors in the 74th Hunger Games. Even though she has been forced to work long and hard hours throughout her childhood, she has an unbreakable spirit. In The Hunger Games it's never wise to underestimate your foes, because even the smallest competitors can still find a way to kill you.

Thresh

Thresh

Thresh is a beast of a Tribute and one of the most feared players in the 74th annual Hunger Games. Like Rue, Thresh hails from District 11, an agriculture district under the cruel thumb of The Capital. In District 11 children are forced to work the fields and orchards and Thresh is a strong, well-built and powerful product of his upbringing.

Can Katniss, Peeta and the rest of the Tributes defeat the biggest threat in the Games?

Cato

Cato has lived his life in full preparation for his time in The Hunger Games. He's known as a "Career," basically someone that has honed and sharpened their killing skills to survive and win the Games. Cato, like Thresh is one of the most-feared and deadly combatants in the 74th Hunger Games.
