Believe it or not, Bane actually isn't a lumbering brute who tries to smash everything in his path. The man has the technique to throw down with the likes of Batman and give him a solid hand-to-hand fight (and that's off venom!). He's not as good as Bruce, but let's face it, few are. Bane's sporting a resume that includes owning Nightwing twice, brutal fights with Jean-Paul Valley (Azrael), easily defeating Tim Drake and dropping over 30 inmates in prison before being subdued. Simply put: the dude's got skill.
