Bane was dealt a crappy hand in life, but instead of folding, he made the best of it and won. Born in a prison island called Pena Dura, Bane was doomed to remain in the facility because of his father's actions. Bane's dad was a revolutionary and fled authorities, so the flawed government determined that the child would pay for his father's history. Despite the harsh environment, Bane adapted by spending all of his time perfecting his body and mind; he read everything at his disposal, learned from others and fought to survive on a daily basis. At first glance, this child with a teddy bear looked innocent, but Bane would hide a knife in the bear's head and used it on quite a few unfortunate fellows. Essentially becoming the alpha male of the entire facility, the staff took note and used him as a guinea pig for an experimental drug called "venom." Other test subjects died, but it was a success with the villain. Eventually Bane escapes the island and begins his new journey: the hunt for the man inmates fear (Batman) and to rule Gotham City.
