Star Wars: What We Learned

Star Wars is an ever-expanding saga we all adore (for the most part), but behind the blaster rifles and lightsabers is a rich amount of advice we can translate into our lives. You may not be able to use the force, but there's a lot you can learn from it.

Life isn't easy. With so much going on in our day-to-day shuffle it's perfectly normal to feel overwhelmed when we're faced with daunting challenges. But if you play it cool and take a moment to reflect on Star Wars, you're almost certain to find a solution for the issue. So don't be a Padawan when it comes to problem solving! Read Star Wars: What We Learned and soon enough you'll be able to conquer any obstacle.

Create, Modify, Repeat

If George Lucas has taught us anything, it's that it's never too late to change your mind and do something about it. Ewoks creeping you out with their beady eyes? Give them CGI blinking! Don't like Vader's silence as he contemplates which side to take? Have him yell no (again...). First the classic trilogy was brought back with updated effects to enhance the visual quality. Then the prequel trilogy was added (many Bothans died watching it). Then there were numerous changes implemented when translating the films to Blu-ray. Now they're all being re-released in 3D. What else does Lucas have in store for the franchise? We don't know, but we're damn sure he's never going to let go of it. He's taught us you have every right to mess around with your own work... regardless of good or bad the changes may be.

That's No Moon

Obi-Wan's keen observation is something we need to apply on a daily, if not hourly, basis. If he was just a little faster with spotting the Death Star, A New Hope would have played out differently. They would have been able to rush out of there before getting caught in the tractor beam (which means Obi would have lived!), informed Rebel leaders about the ginormous space station, and had more time to prepare an attack. Sure, Leia would have died in the explosion, but hey, give and take, ya know? The lesson is simple: just be aware of your surroundings and it can make your day a lot easier.

Show Some Respect

Don't trash talk your superiors like Conan Antonio Motti did in A New Hope. If you have a problem with what they say, address it in a respectful way. Don't be a jerk, show some respect. This should be obvious, but apparently some people were never taught manners.

Nothing In Life Is Free

As displayed on the forest moon of Endor, if something is too good to be true, it probably is. What the wookie thought was a free meal in the woods quickly turned into he and his peers stuck in a net, then embarrassingly taken prisoner by what are essentially large, adorable teddy bears. Sure, the alliance with the Ewoks helped overthrow the Empire (rock beats laser, duh), but you might not always be fortunate enough to have things turn out that way. Be smart and skeptical, there's a chance it could save you from being eaten by cute animals.

Scruffy Looking Nerf Herder!

Relationships can't always be like fairy tales. Sometimes they're rocky and take a lot of work. In the case of Han and Leia, it was all about Solo remaining resolute. Leia treated Han like trash. She insulted him regularly, and even had the nerve to call him a scruffy looking nerf herder (ouch). But the young Harrison Ford was too cool to let those words faze him, because just like he says in Empire Strikes Back, he knows she loves him. Every relationship is different, but it takes dedication. Han Solo proved that and we thank him for that lesson.
