Top Sci-Fi Women of 2010

From Star Trek to Iron Man 2, we present our annual collection of the hottest sci-fi heroines of the year.

What good will it be living in the future if there aren't beautiful creatures to put on a pedestal?

We've listed the top 50 intergalactic hotties from last summer til now (assuming time is linear of course) and offer up our conclusions for your appraisal.

Who's too high on the list?  Who'd we leave off?  Let us know in the comments.

Bayonetta

Bayonetta

Character: Bayonetta (Bayonetta)

Powers/Abilities: Wields a Hellish Arsenal

Why She's Hot: We're not going to pretend as if the story of Bayonetta made a damn bit of sense to us, but we'll absolutely admit that a tall, stacked, leather-clad witch with insanely long hair and a pair of sexy spectacles kept us playing, chapter after chapter, day after day. With a heroine that hot, who needs logic or a coherent script?

Book of Eli

Mila Kunis in Book of Eli

Character:  Solara (The Book of Eli)

Powers/Abilities: Survives Apocalypses

Why She's Hot: It's entirely possible that Mila Kunis in The Book of Eli is attractive due solely to the fact that she is the only decent looking woman in post-apocalyptic America.  (Not that we judge a book by its cover, but still...)

Soranik Natu

Soranik Natu in Blackest Night

Character: Soranik Natu (Green Lantern)

Powers/Abilities: Power Ring/Medical Training.

Why She's Hot: Green Lantern's Soranik Natu is a number of things, all of them as hot as the central power battery itself: she's a hot alien, a hot doctor, potentially the hottest member of the Green Lantern Corps. Recent discovery that her father is actually Sinestro make her all the more appetizing, considering that she may have an evil streak (though her valor she showed during Blackest Night contradicts this.)

Sam Sparks

Anna Faris in Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs

Character:  Sam Sparks (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs)

Powers/Abilities: Weather Girl

Why She's Hot: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is, odlly, one of our favorite films of 2009, a surprisingly hilarious animated adventure for both parents and children alike. And for creepy geeks like ourselves who have the hots for cartoon characters. Voiced by Anna Faris, who is herself amazingly attractive, Sam Sparks is one of those girls who somehow manages to look better with her hair back and the big glasses on. Yeah, yeah, we know. It's a nerd thing.

Isabel Lucas - Transformers 2

Isabel Lucas in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Character:  Alice-Bot (Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen)

Powers/Abilities: Transforms into a Hot Freshman

Why She's Hot:  If Michael Bay was looking for a girl hot enough to give Megan Fox a run for her money, he found her. And that's not an easy task. Yet the story for Transformers 2 called for Shia to be tempted by another woman in his first week at college, so she had to be as hot as Megan Fox. Hotter seemed unlikely. But they did a bang-up job in finding a very, very closed second in Isabel Lucas. So close, in fact, that perhaps it made some people realize they may not need Megan Fox in future Transformers movies.

Anna Friel
Anna Friel

Anna Friel in Land of the Lost

Character:  Holly Cantrell (Land of the Lost)

Powers/Abilities: Cuteness/Rowing

Why She's Hot: Anna Friel has been charming audiences since her turn on the fabulous, yet short-lived, TV series Pushing Daisies. Indeed, it may be her picture next to the Wikipedia entry for "cute."  (Okay, we just checked and it wasn't, so we added it.)  To see her alongside Will Ferrell in the wildly bizarre and equally funny time-travel comedy Land of the Lost is completely fine by us. In fact, we hope she'll let the British accent out more often in her next few roles, considering that it makes her vastly more adorable.

Bitch Slap

America Olivo in Bitch Slap

Character: Camero (Bitch Slap)

Powers/Abilities: Huge Guns

Why She's Hot: While the movie itself isn't going to make any end-of-the-year awards lists, Bitch Slap features three tremendously hot female leads searching through an alternative American setting for a gangster's buried treasure in between slow-motion water fights and deadly gun battles. That they are scantily clad and physically endowed doesn't hurt either, but America Olivo's Camero is perhaps the toughest and most beautiful of them all.

Fringe - Jasika Nicole Interview Credit: FOX

Jasika Nicole in Fringe

Character:  Astrid Farnsworth (Fringe)

Powers/Abilities: Science Skills/Elder Care

Why She's Hot: It takes a strong woman to take care of the mentally unstable and socially awkward Dr. Walter Bishop. Rarer still is the caregiver who can babysit the brilliant while also mixing up formulas and crunching numbers in a basement lab. And virtually impossible to find is the woman who can do all that and also look like Jasika Nicole. Beauty, brains and a never-ending supply of patience - yet another of the series' wild impossibilities.

Pandorum

Antje Traue in Pandorum

Character: Nadia (Pandorum)

Powers/Abilities: Not Being Eaten by Alien Cannibals

Why She's Hot: Surviving on a derelict space ship when your fellow crewmates have all spontaneously evolved into flesh-eating beasts and your captain is slowly going insane is no easy feat. So much so that most masculine movie heroes couldn't make it on their own. Well, that's because they're not Antje Traue in Pandorum, the resourceful survivalist who is somehow able to guide our heroes to safety (shooting up through an otherworldly ocean in a really cool pod!) as the ravenous hordes approach.

Stargate Universe

Ming-Na in Stargate Universe

Character: Camile Wray (Stargate Universe)

Powers/Abilities: Empathy

Why She's Hot: When we say that Ming-Na's ability on Stargate Universe is "empathy," that's not to insinuate that she's a classic science-fiction empath. Rather, as the Human Resources liaison, she's the one member of the crew who kinda knows what the heck is actually going on.

Camile Wray truly does care about her crewmates, an attractive quality for certain, but the fact that she looks like Ming-Na doesn't hurt either.
