I love it when the British just start making sh*t up...I mean,
we certainly do our fair share of fictionalizing the news here in America, as
well, but none do it quite so blatantly, or with nearly as much panache, as the
English tabloids. It really is the worst kind of hit-whoring, creating a story
solely for the purpose of pairing up Robert Pattinson and Scarlett Johansson in
the Google search. Of course, the fact that we're even reporting on this story
is its own kind of hit-whoring - largely because you people will click on
anything with the word "Pattinson" in the title - but at least we're not just
making things up to do it....
That said, if you're looking for a laugh, check out this
story in The Sun which claims that Courtney Love has given her blessing to a
film about Nirvana's frontman, Kurt Cobain, in which the iconic musician will
be played by Robert Pattinson and Love herself will be portrayed by Scarlett
Johansson. Oh, right, and David Fincher is also directing...The fictional film,
titled All Apologies, isn't entirely
fabricated, as a project about the life of Kurt Cobain has been in some level
of development for years now.
Thankfully, Spin is currently quoting Love's manager,
Jonathan Daniel, denying the rumor outright:
"That's an
amazing story, and the first I've heard of any of this," Jonathan Daniel
tells SPIN.com about The Sun's report. "They manage to fit pretty much
everyone in Hollywood into an article without one fact check and include a 'My
First Photoshop' job as a 'mock up' to boot!" Daniel says the idea of this
film was discussed before he began working with Love, and its working title is
Heavier Than Heaven, not All Apologies, as The Sun reported. A production deal
with Universal does exist, however.
All things considered, however, there may be some small
level of truth to some of this. Certainly, one would imagine that Love would
wield some degree of creative control over a possible Nirvana movie, and the casting of either Pattinson or
Johansson isn't entirely implausible.
But Fincher is certainly tied up with a number of forthcoming projects, one of
which is The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,
and would be seemingly unavailable if the project were actively moving forward.
Check back with UGO for more as things come together.
Robert Pattinson Is Not Kurt Cobain
He's also not playing Kurt Cobain. At least, not yet.
