There's virtually nothing that I won't see if it has David Fincher's name on it. Of all my various fanboy-isms, Fincher is up there with
Aaron Sorkin in terms of Hollywood artists whose work I'll never pass up. So
imagine the sheer joy I experienced when it was announced that the two would
team up for The Social Network about
the early days of Facebook.
But as with any such cinematic idol, one begins to wonder
about their next project before the current film is even in theaters. And it
looks like Fincher's could be Pawn
Sacrifice for Columbia Pictures. According to Variety, this long-in-development project about the life of chess
champion Bobby Fisher prior to his legendary match with Borris Spassky started
heating up when Dirty, Pretty Things writer Steven Knight turned in a first-rate draft.
Fincher is also said to be circling an adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, an
adaptation of the popular financial thriller by author Stieg Larsson. A film version has already been made, but it is in Sweedish. And we don't know anyone who speaks Sweedish. This,
coupled with news that Fincher is trying desperately to keep Heavy Metal alive by teaming up with James
Cameron and Zach Snyder to produce animated segments in 3D for the film and
he's one busy Hollywood icon.
