If you sat in the theater watching the original Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy and thought, "why the hell aren't these boats sailing directly into my face!", your wish will finally come true.
Last night, Deadline reported that Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will be shot in Disney Digital 3D. This is good news for fans: unlike the crappy post-conversion seen in Alice in Wonderland and Clash of the Titans, the fourth Pirates film will be shot using 3D cameras, ensuring a more Avatar-like experience.
It's interesting to note that in our recent interview with Jerry Bruckheimer, the blockbuster producer sounded uneasy about the 3D process. Apparently, after a few days of consideration, it's not such a problem anymore. Might have something to do with the scientific equation "3D = $$$".
So do you need (or want) a 3D Pirates movie? It already has the upper hand if it's shot using 3D technology and if they keep the action scaled down (which they may have to), it could easily be a step in the right direction for a creative technology that's slowly losing audience interest.
What say you?!
