Sharpen That Machete

Machete, Robert Rodriguez's revenge flick is set to arrive this September

Robert Rodriguez's schedule has never been busier than it is right now. Already set for release this summer is the Rodriguez-produced Predators while work has just started on Spy Kids: Armageddon in Austin. Meanwhile, Red Sonja had a recent casting change and other long-rumored projects like Sin City 2 are presumably on the way as well. Add Machete to that list and you've got one busy Texan.

Variety reports a date of September 3rd for the Danny Trejo epic, based on the fake trailer Rodriguez shot for 2007's Grindhouse, in turn inspired by 70's celluloid revenge flicks. Trejo stars as the titular Machete, a Mexican day laborer who seeks revenge after being set up for an assassination attempt. The film is set to include some bizarre (but amazing) casting choices, including Steven Segal, Robert De Niro, Lindsay Lohan and Jessica Alba.

Machete is not the only Grindhouse trailer that is set to see the light of reality; Eli Roth still claims that he wants to do a feature version of his trailer, Thanksgiving. Personally, I'd prefer to see Edgar Wright tackle Don't.

Hopefully, Machete's release will mean that we'll finally get a definitive version of Grindhouse on DVD and Blu-Ray. Planet Terror and Death Proof just aren't as fun when they're trailer-less and not a double a feature.
