J. J. Abrams' Best Work

In a decade overflowing with the problems of young adult dramas, Felicity managed to stand out from the rest. J. J. Abrams co-created this WB drama about Felicity (Keri Russell) moving across the country and her life through college. What really helped the show stick out was the fact that each of the four seasons represented a full school year, so the audience pretty much grew up with her and watched how much she changed from freshman to senior year. Just like the other shows in the 90s, the key focus was on her love life and the struggling choice between Ben and Noel. Sorry, Dawson, Felicity doesn't choose you.

Abrams teamed up with the legendary Steven Spielberg to bring this alien flick to life last year. Written and directed by J. J. and produced by Spielberg, Super 8 was a heavy dose of classic-vibe excellence. It was fun, filled with laughs, beautifully crafted and absolutely succeeded in transporting us back in time a few decades. While I wasn't the biggest fan of the feel-good ending, those fifteen minutes or so couldn't scratch the overall enjoyment of everything that came before the last act. The ending was quickly forgotten, though, courtesy of the scene during the credits that can make anyone burst into laughter. 

First airing at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards, Andy Samberg once again proves he's the king of music videos. Mocking the generic strut characters take as a massive explosion errupts behind them, this tune featured the oh-so-heavenly voice of Will Ferrell as well. But the real gem here was the cameo from the one and only J. J. Abrams. The man steps out of the director's chair and awesomely directs his fingers along the keyboard for a solo that deserves a Grammy.

Okay, maybe not a Grammy, but it's still a sweet addition to the video.

Ben Linus returns! Sorry, now that I got that out of the way, Person of Interest has become a huge hit in a fairly short amount of time. This CBS crime drama draws tons of comparisons to Minority Report, seeing as it's about a computer program that can predict violent crimes before they take place in the Big Apple. In a TV age polluted with an overwhelming amount of crime shows, Person of Interest manages to stand out with it's sharp writing and terrific action.
