Edgar Wright has his fans in mind, repeating certain lines of dialogue or actions to create a sense of continuity. For example, only people that have seen Spaced, Wright/Pegg's first collaboration, will know that Tyres, a raver in that show that turned everyday noises into the elements of his own private techno soundtrack, makes a cameo in Shaun of the Dead as a zombie. These jokes give the viewer that knows Wright's work a privileged position. It's kind of like Lost except replace "overwrought meta-textual viral sites and books" with "running gags" and "inside jokes" and you'll get the picture.
