What kind of a world are we living in where we can wake up one morning and discover that there isn't an in-development sequel to a remake of a 30 year slasher film? "A terrible one" is the answer.
There's not going to be another Friday the 13th, Part 2 even if 2011 does mark the actual 30th anniversary of the original sequel that proved the slash franchise has legs. The news comes courtesy of producer Brad Fuller (as spotted by the eagle eyes at Shock Till You Drop) on his Twitter account.
"It is dead," writes Fuller, "not happening."
"But why?" you ask.
You better start tweeting in his direction, because it's a mystery to me. While the remake may have not have been the most glorious entry in the epic story of Jason Vorhees (He went to space. That's hard to beat.), it did feature a pretty amazing take on the hockey-faced killer by the incredibly charming Derek Mears who, realistically, is the only actor anyone would expect to return for another go-round at Crystal Lake.
Platinum Dunes marches forward, though, with a slew of modern horror remakes, including the very soon to be released A Nightmare on Elm Street. Will we get a franchise there where Friday failed? If we do, what will future generations want Freddy to crossover with? Won't somebody please think of the youth of tomorrow?
