Characters That Should Be Fed Up By Now

Even the best jobs in the world get old after a while. We list some characters who are probably tired of doing the same thing over and over again.

It's hard being a franchise character. People love what you do, but they don't want you to do anything else. Inevitably, life becomes one long, repetitive slog. With an endless loop like that, it's only a matter of time before you snap and finally give up on fighting the good fight. From princess-saving plumbers to world-saving action heroes, we list some characters that should be fed up by now.

Ethan Hunt

If you think James Bond has it bad, consider poor Ethan Hunt. While Bond has saved the world in pretty much every way imaginable, Ethan really has only one method: falling and dangling.

You can actually see it begin to wear him down as the series progresses, too. In Mission: Impossible II, he's dangling off a mountain even while on vacation and seems to enjoy it. By Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, the idea of dangling off that big tower in Dubai gives him no thrill at all and clearly annoys him. It's only a matter of time before he's fed up with falling and dangling completely.

Women can be difficult, but when you're in love it's usually worth it. No woman, however, is worth the trouble Princess Peach continuously puts Mario through. If she gets kidnapped, of course he has to go after her. He's a hero after all, but after the twentieth abduction, Mario's probably getting pretty sick of it. He should buy her some mace or self-defense lessons or something... or maybe just move on to some girl who's not in such high demand among the Koopas.

Alfred Pennyworth

You can't expect an obsessed man to have much perspective on himself or ever really tire of his own personal crusade. But that doesn't mean those around him don't don't get sick of it from time to time. And if we were Alfred Pennyworth, Batman's long-suffering butler, we'd have tendered our resignation years ago.

Alfred does everything for Batman, usually before Batman even needs to ask. Running errands and preparing food is one thing, but Alfred also serves at Batman's physician and his largely ignored voice of reason. He's on call 24 hours a day and rarely gets vacations. And all because some spoiled rich kid never got over the death of his parents. There's little doubt this character is about as fed up as they come.

Captain Harris

Police Academy's Captain Harris may be a pompous ass, but at the end of the day, he's just trying to give his city the best police officers possible, and with this group of weirdos and rebellious practical jokers, it's no wonder he doesn't like them very much.

After so many years of being the butt of endless gags that end up landing him in the emergency room, it's shocking that Captain Harris hasn't gotten fed up yet and just quit the force altogether, or at least moved to a city where the police department doesn't take in every motor-mouthed idiot off the street who wants a gun.

John McClane

John McClane never wants to get in on the action, but the action always ends up finding him anyway. After Die Hard With a Vengeance, he even shaved his head, changed his accent, stopped smoking cigarettes, and curbed his cursing in an effort to make himself unrecognizable to any Die Hard situations that might happen to pass his way.

But then Live Free or Die Hard happened and all that disguise work still wasn't enough. Now it looks like a fifth adventure is in the works. If it's true that John McClane really is a regular guy who hates having to kick ass all the time, he's got to be all kinds of fed up by now.
