It's the film he was, *tee hee*, BORN to make! Get it? Get it? *shotgun sound* *writer dies*

Deadline is reporting that Tony Gilroy, who wrote all three Bourne movies and directed the Oscar-nominated Michael Clayton and Duplicity, is in final negotiations to direct the fourth installment in the series, tentatively titled The Bourne Legacy. He began writing the screenplay in June. He is taking over from director Paul Greengrass, who himself took over from Doug Liman.

It is unknown whether Matt Damon will continue his successful run as Jason Bourne, this generation's answer to James Bond. The actor has stated that he would not return unless Greengrass did, and while the last film, Bourne Ultimatum did not kill the character, it did put a period on the arc set up in the first movie.

What Gilroy will do with the character is unknown at this time, but I have three suggestions on how he can continue this series without Damon:

The Bourne Affidavit (starring Matthew McConaughey): Jason Bourne is accused of perjuring himself in a lawsuit involving a car he claims he did not smash into in The Bourne Supremacy. In order to clear his name he must flee the courthouse, steal a police car, and crash into many cars before finding the CIA operatives with surveillance footage that exonerates him.

The Bourne Referendum (starring Ben Affleck): Jason Bourne gets plastic surgery in order to publicly campaign to make hit-and-run accidents a frivolous lawsuit. When the CIA discovers his new identity, he is pursued over rooftops, mountains and a dangerous motorcycle chase through Switzerland's Autobahn in which many cars are destroyed.

The Bourne Continuum (starring Lorenzo Lamas): Jason Bourne discovers that his true identity is not David Webb, but Javier Blanco, a former Buenos Aires demolition derby driver. He returns to Argentina and reunites with his family, but when his mother and 12 brothers are murdered by rogue CIA agents, his journey towards revenge takes him to the Formula One Grand Prix in South Korea where he drives a Smart Car onto the track while being pursued by the KGB. Many, many, many cars are destroyed.
