Best Movie Ever: Jurassic Park

Steven Spielberg's dinosaur theme park tale is a movie we can watch over and over again. Hum the theme song as we explain why it's the best movie ever!

It's a beautiful thing when you can walk out of a theater and say "damn, that was an excellent movie!" Jurassic Park warranted that reaction and is truly worth revisiting on blu-ray. From the groundbreaking technology that made us believe the t-rex was real, to the well-crafted unfolding of the story, we love the adventure Steven Spielberg directed back in the 90s. Let's take a moment to reflect on just some of the many reasons why Jurassic Park is one of the best movies ever!

Shoot Her! Shoot Her!

Jurrasic Park's opening sequence was the perfect tease for all of the awesome chaos viewers would soon enjoy. Attempting to transport a velociraptor into a pen, things quickly go wrong and the prehistoric predator grabs a worker's legs. Robert Muldoon hangs on to the injured man as he yells at his peers to "shoot herrrrrrrr," but sadly, not even Muldoon's hat and pulled up socks could save the lad from becoming a dinosaur's dinner.

The Sleazy Lawyer

Donald Gennaro was the lawyer sent to the island to determine if the park was safe to open. Steadfast on shutting it down, he was rendered awe-struck by witnessing dinosaurs strolling the scenery. Gennaro then suggested ticket prices to the park should skyrocket (take that, 99%). However, his greedy plan never saw the light of day. When the power was killed and the group was stuck outside the T-Rex pen, Gennaro fled his vehicle (bravely leaving the kids behind) and hid in a nearby restroom. Unfortunately for him, big pappa t-rex couldn't hold it and busted into the bathroom. Being eaten by a t-rex sounds like a horrific way to go, but being on a toilet, too? Talk about embarrassing.

Hey Look, A Dinosaur!

Even if the story wasn't nearly as fun, we'd still be completely blown away (at the time) by Jurassic Park's technology. Seeing the dinosaurs for the first time wasn't only a jaw-dropping experience for Dr. Grant, but for the audience as well. The iconic Stan Winston brought these extinct creatures to life with stunning animatronics, and the detailed CGI convinced us the island full of dinosaurs was fact, not fiction. So, take a stroll down nostalgia lane and re-watch this 90s classic in crisp blu-ray!

Wash Your Hands

Every movie needs a good dose of humor, and Jurassic Park is laced with it. A brontosaurus sneezing on Lex is certainly funny, but personally, the biggest laugh was how Dr. Malcom (Jeff Goldblum) reacts during a scene surrounding a massive amount of triceratops dung. He flat-out stated what was one everyone's minds at the time with "that is one big pile of sh*t" and it only got better from there. When Dr. Sattler dove into the mound with her hands, Goldblum's dry delivery of "you will remember to wash your hands before you eat anything?" was priceless. It's a shame they didn't have purell back in 1993.

John Williams

We're very lucky Steven Spielberg is good friends with composer John Williams, because the man makes marvelous music that compliments Spielberg's work so damn well! Having already created a long resume of memorable themes (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jaws), the score to Jurasic Park is yet another catchy accomplishment from Williams. For those lucky enough to have a sexy surround sound system, we hope you enjoy the recognizable music that kicks off as the group flies to the island!
