Best Movie Ever: Captain America: The First Avenger

Just like the cover of Captain America Comics #1 from 1941, we get to see Steve Rogers slug Hitler in the jaw. Well, it's just a look-alike of the Nazi leader for the play, but it's still fun seeing our super soldier attack old Adolf over and over again.

How could anyone not like the ever-so lovable Dr. Abraham Erskine? Played by Stanley Tucci, this German scientist fled to America. He's responsible for the Red Skull being so... well, red. With a big heart and an even bigger brain, Erskine selected the scrawny Steve Rogers to undergo the super soldier experiment. We knew his death was coming a mile away, but we'd be lying if we said it didn't tug on our heartstrings just a bit.

Albeit briefly, it was a cool nod to comic fans when we saw Bucky wield the shield and aim his pistol (before getting owned). In the comics, Bucky takes up the mantle of Captain America and kicks all kind of ass in his own unique (and more lethal) style. Props to Joe Johnston for giving us fanboys this easter egg.

From my experience, a good amount of the audience was confused and even annoyed that Captain America had a musical number, but this was a clever way to have Steve Rogers become Captain America. He had the training. He was brave and he had the physicals. But, he didn't have the confidence, leadership abilities, or charisma. This scene showcased Cap going from someone who has to awkwardly read lines hidden in his shield, to a man to the country adores and views as a symbol of their courage and power. When he went overseas, it was a nice reality check for the real soldiers to be completely unamused by him. He was a figure to the people of America, but not the troops. This helped motivate him to do his part and in turn, we were treated to a good deal of Cap doing what he does best: hitting people with his shield.
