Body horror is one of our favorite outgrowths of the genre, and I use the term "outgrowths" quite literally. In a nutshell, it deals with the feelings of terror elicited by the destruction, degradation and mutation of the human body. I have a demented and passionate love for Brian Yuzna's 1989 feature Society. Body horror, after all, is fear of the familiar made strange, and this flick exploits that like few others do. Set in Beverly Hills, it follows popular, rich young Bill Whitney as he learns the horrible truth about his friends and family: they're disgusting, amorphous alien creatures that feed on the bodily fluids of humans. The film's climactic sequence is one of the most memorable and horrifying in film history, as an orgy of plutocrats dissolves into a writhing mass of flesh.
