Girls Of The Playboy Club

NBC's new The Playboy Club recognizes the fact that girls were just hotter back in the day. To celebrate, they've cast some of today's foxiest babes to star as Bunnies. Here are the girls of The Playboy Club.

The past is the new hotness on TV right now, with multiple networks trying to cash in on the Mad Men craze with shows set in the 1960s. NBC has the lead in our eyes with The Playboy Club, which takes us back to the early days of Hugh Hefner's hot girl empire. Set at the legendary men's club that Hef opened in Chicago, the cast is overflowing with incredibly sexy bunnies in their trademark outfits. Let's get ready for the show by shedding some light on the girls of The Playboy Club.

Amber Heard

The lead actress of The Playboy Club is the gorgeous Amber Heard. Heard plays Maureen, a new hire at the Club who needs to get with the program fast to make a living. Unfortunately, she also gets caught up in a murder in the pilot episode, which complicates her new life as a Bunny immensely. Heard has a great natural body that fills out the Bunny costume admirably.

Amber Heard was born and raised in Austin, Texas, but soon after her best friend died in a car accident she dropped out of school to move to NYC and start modeling. Unlike the thousands of other ladies who try that every year, she actually succeeded. It wasn't long until she started acting as well, taking roles in movies like Friday Night Lights and Alpha Dog. Her big break came in Pineapple Express and she's soon to star opposite Johnny Depp in The Rum Diary.

The 60s were also an era in which racial boundaries were torn down - even though equality was a right of all Americans, there was still a great deal of ingrained prejudice. Brenda, a Bunny on The Playboy Club played by Naturi Naughton, is looking to blaze new trails by being the first African-American woman to pose for Playboy's coveted centerfold. I know it sounds ridiculous, but at the time this really was a big deal (the actual first Black centerfold was Jennifer Jackson in 1965).

Naughton is probably most famous for her portrayal of Lil' Kim in the Biggie Smalls bio Notorious. She also had a long run in the Broadway production of Hairspray as Little Inez. Interestingly enough, The Playboy Club isn't the first time she has played a Bunny - on an episode of Mad Men, she starred as Toni, the New York club hostess who was dating Lane Pryce for a while.

Jenna Dewan

Jenna Dewan is a girl who knows how to move her body. She had her big break in dance flick Step Up, where she won a Teen Choice Award for her dynamic booty-shaking. Thankfully, she's bringing those skills to the fore on The Playboy Club as a house bunny named Janie. We don't know much about her character so far, but you can bet your bottom dollar that she'll fill out a bunny suit well.

Dewan started her acting career in 2002 with the Rob Schneider flick The Hot Chick, but aside from Step Up she hasn't had much luck at the box office, with most of her movies going straight to DVD - the most notable example being Setup, a heist film also starring Bruce Willis and 50 Cent. Hopefully a good long run on TV will make her star shine a little brighter.

Leah Renee

Leah Renee, born Leah Renee Cudmore but dropping the last name out of negative associations with cow stomachs or something, this actress and singer is getting her first big break with The Playboy Club. She plays Alice, a beautiful girl with a big secret. Despite spending her nights tantalizing men, she's actually a lesbian in a fake marriage with a gay man. Homosexuality was a much bigger taboo back then, and it was common for gay men and lesbians to pair like this to protect each other.

Since most of her roles have been on Canadian TV, we're not familiar with her body of work, but she's hot and that's what really matters for the purposes of this list.

Laura Benanti

In pretty much any situation where a bunch of women have to work together, a social stratification will develop. At the top of the Playboy Club hierarchy is Carol-Lynne, the self-styled "Bunny Mother" played by Laura Benanti. Although she's a little older than the rest of the girls, Carol-Lynne is keeping her hold on the club by any means necessary. Her relationship with regular Nick is one of the show's major plot points, and I'm sure it'll get ugly fast as he's a bit of a player.

Laura Benanti has previously been a stage actress, drawing raves for her performance in the 2008 revival of Gypsy on Broadway. Her last major TV role was on the horrible psychic cancer lawyer show Eli Stone, but hopefully getting into the bunny outfit will do her better. She was also once married to the guy from the Spin Doctors, but she divorced him so it's all cool.
