Linkin Park 8-bit
Rebellion is a side-scrolling beat'em-up for the iPhone starring who else,
but the gelled-hair, titular bards of Linkin Park.
What exactly does one do in a Linkin Park video game? Fight the man, damn it!
That's right, The Man, it would
seem, has gotten the world down, and as a fan of Linkin Park, it's your job to
save the day - not before you reunite and find the scattered pieces of their
latest single: "Blackbirds."
The plot's a novelty, the type us
older gamers enjoyed in the NES days, back when Heavy Rain was just a
good excuse to stay inside all day. The
art is likewise old school. Characters are blocky pixels and inhabit a 2D city
just like the one in River City Ransom if all its stores were Hot
Topic.
8-bit doesn't stop at
looks and play. The band's remade their hits in 8-bit form, which play as the
game's soundtrack.
All these components, however,
are simply an abstract entry-point to the band's social media platform, a
persistent system like Facebook or the Plus+ Network that allows fans to
communicate with text messages and visit one another's in-game apartments.
Players can also catch up in the
app on the bands latest tour dates and news. And completion of the game, rewards
you with that single you worked so hard to piece together. "Blackbirds" is
exclusive to the game, so you won't find it anywhere else -
legally.
For fans, Linkin Park is the game
you want. For retro gamers, it's certainly worth a look. And for everyone else,
it's the best game for chainsawing dogs. Because I totally did
that.
Linkin Park 8-Bit Rebellion Lets You Chainsaw Dogs
Linkin Park prove to be the nerds we all suspected them of being with their new retro release for the iPhone.
