Dungeon Defenders, a new game in the ever-growing tower defense genre, mashes up its hordes-of-enemies-trying-to-kill-you action with RPG level progression and four character classes. 

Legendary warriors of the world of Etheria have left their kin in charge of things while they're off saving the world. Life at home in the castle doesn't exactly go as planned and things drastically go wrong; when the young warriors unleash beasts and demons in the castle, they are forced to band together to fend them off!

Here's a quick guide on each class in Dungeon Defenders, so you can know who to pick as you defend the castle!

Dungeon Defenders will be available Oct. 19 for XBLA, PSN and PC.

Squire

The Squire isn't a knight just yet, but he's got his heart in the right place. The Squire's role in the group of four is to be a physical force and to fight enemy beasts up close and at a distance; he can build physical towers to help defend against the horde of enemies and is a major physical force in any fight.

To defend the castle, the Squire can unleash:

  • A spiked blockage that will pierce enemy skin if they get too close.
  • A harpoon turret can fire off against oncoming foes.
  • A cannon to rip through crowds of beasts in defense of the kingdom.
  • The slice n dice blockade, which spins and cuts down enemy waves.

If that's not enough, the Squire can use a special circle cut maneuver up close, and unlease a rage ability.

Apprentice

The Apprentice ain't a grand wizard yet, but he's not bad at keeping enemies at bay by attacking from a distance. His mystical towers will compliment the physical towers of the Squire as you defend your objective.

To defend the castle, the Apprentice can unleash:

  • A magic blockade to physically block and slow the progression of enemies
  • A magic missle tower that will shoot bolts down upon the weak
  • A fireball tower that will roast enemies alive
  • A lightning tower that will wipe enemies off the map
  • A striker tower that will shoot enemies with energy over long distances and through walls. It's the insurance plan.

If that's not enough, the Apprentice can drop mana bombs right on top of the swarm of enemies.

Huntress

The Huntress is your long distance soldier, the Legolas to the Squire's Aragorn. She can shoot arrows through enemy faces and rock the horde from a distance. If that's not enough, she can set and deploy a slew of traps to take out enemies.

To defend the castle, the Huntress can unleash:

  • A gas trap to choke the enemies lungs.
  • A proximity mine, because why the hell not.
  • An inferno trap that will surround the enemies in fire
  • A spike trap to skewer enemies
  • A darkness trap that will blind enemies into confusion.

Monk

The Monk is forced to forgo a life of solitude and peace, for that of violence and war! On top of his fighting prowess, the Monk serves as a support character that will buff enemy and friend alike. His abilities in healing and in debilitating foes will be key to progressing in Dungeon Defenders.

To defend the castle, the Monk can:

  • Use his aura to slow down enemies
  • Use his aura to drain them with electricity
  • Heal his friends
  • Enrage his enemies until they become blind with hate and attack and kill one another.
