Eligibility Graduates of medical assisting programs accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) are eligible to take the CMA (AAMA)® Certification Exam. Students learn first aid, laboratory techniques, clinical procedures, pharmaceutical principles, and how to administer medications to patients. You have the opportunity to offer a very important service to the community, by participating actively in the ongoing process of patients' care and by channeling your efforts towards improving the patients' health.

Upon completion of the Medical Assistant Certificate program, you could pursue positions in settings such as doctor's offices, clinics, and other medical facilities. Many massage therapists who obtain a healthcare degree go on to start their own businesses.

Clinical Medical Assistant perform routine clinical tasks to keep the offices of physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors, and optometrists running smoothly. The Medical Assisting program accepts a limited number of students each year and there is a separate application process.

Clinical rotations are scheduled in various clinical settings and are a required part of the medical assistant program of study to assist students to obtain hands-on experience in the medical field while learning in the student role. The Charter College Medical Assistant program incorporates a combination of clinical, technical and business skills making our graduates employable.

The American Medical Technologist (AMT) offers the RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) examination. The medical assistant online degree also helps students develop skills in active listening, reading comprehension, and communication. Medical assistants must be able to understand and follow medical charts and diagnoses.

To get started in medical assisting there is some training that is required. On average, licensed vocational nurses and registered nurses receive higher salaries than an MA. Of course, a career in nursing also requires more training. Medical assistants hold a variety of jobs and are responsible for many different tasks.

Medical assistants working in physicians' offices help with administrative tasks like bookkeeping and clinical responsibilities. Students first master basic skills and competencies required for all general office work and then move on to more challenging and medically specific procedures.
